Focus areas : Improving English language skills for the underprivileged section of society

Alumnus of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, I previously managed trade (sales, exports and supply chain) for, among others, one of the biggest FMCG companies in India.

In addition from 2002-2009 I worked as a volunteer (and elected member of the Parent Body) on a number of projects. Including the revival of the Gap Year Programme.

Following formal certifications from TEACH INDIA and the Live and Learn Pte Company in Singapore, I focus on education for underprivileged children and children with special needs.

Past and ongoing ventures include:

  • Teaching at the Children’s Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA) school for underprivileged children in Mumbai
  • Helping ‘Cankids’ set up CANSHALA, a school for underprivileged children undergoing cancer treatment in Mumbai
  • Volunteering with the Indian Cancer Society
  • Teaching English (as a volunteer) at 2 schools in Gurgaon for underprivileged children.

I am fluent in English, Hindi, Tamil and Kannada.

Why I want to support women : Despite half the world’s population being female, women, and particularly women in India, suffer rampant discrimination, be it with respect to education, employment, or even within the home. Existing societal structures do little to dislodge deep-rooted patriarchy and daily assaults on women’s dignity and right of opportunity. Change will only come when women help other women build a road towards empowerment, equality and economic opportunity, for both our and future generations.
